Extensive Experience
We have extensive experience guiding organizations through the strategic thinking to explore the benefits, opportunities, challenges and steps in developing a strategic alliance, collaboration, merger, acquisition, or joint venture.
We have successfully guided a large health care system through the process of acquiring a health education center. This involved guiding the boards of each entity through a series of strategic thinking activities that explored the benefits, drawbacks, opportunities, challenges and steps to make it a reality. The process included focus groups, individual interviews with internal and external key stakeholders as well as strategic planning activities. I worked with the new entity to integrate the cultures and help the blended staff and new blended board of directors get off to a strong start.
Judy Whalen designed and facilitated a Collaboration and Consolidation Study for five nonprofit organizations. The outcome of the study was the merger of four of the nonprofits and a process to enable the fifth to merge when their Board of Directors felt it was the right time. The study involved conducting strategic thinking sessions with the Executive Directors to develop trust, respect and a willingness to put confidential information "on the table." An Inter-Agency Assessment was conducted as well as careful conversations with key funders. A model for the new merged entity was developed and presented to each individual board. Financial and legal advisors were brought into the process to conduct due diligences, prepare legal documents and develop a proforma for the new entity.
We have assisted clients in exploring strategic alliances, developing policy to guide the interaction of strategic partnerships and joint ventures.
